Frequently asked questions
How summoning, permadeath, rounds and payments actually work, in a sentence or three each.
About the game
What Taonere is, who makes it, and where the AI comes in.
What is Taonere?
Taonere is a free browser LitRPG. You summon one-of-a-kind heroes, send them up a 100-floor tower, and read every round back as a story written by an AI game master. Your heroes choose their own moves, the dice decide, and death is permanent.
Is Taonere free?
Yes. Summoning with gold, climbing the tower and reading your runs are free, with 5 IP a day to play rounds. The Standard and Premium passes add more daily rounds and Origin Gems.
What is a Master, and what is a dimension?
You are a Master: you summon the heroes and send them out. Every Master gets one dimension, a world of their own with its own name, lore and 100-floor tower.
What can I play it on?
Any web browser, on a computer or a phone, with nothing to download. The game is built for phones first. App store versions are planned but not out yet.
How are the rules kept fair?
The server runs every rule. Dice, damage, checks and rewards are rolled and counted in code, and the AI only decides what heroes and enemies try and say, then writes the scene. Even a hero refusing your order is settled by a server roll.
Summoning and heroes
The odds, classes, duplicates, and what happens when a hero falls.
How does summoning work?
In the Summoning Hall, each summon brings one new hero with their own name, class, race, star rank, personality and portrait. A Basic summon costs 1,000 gold; an Advanced summon costs 250 Origin Gems and never rolls below 2★. More in How Summoning Works.
What are the summon rates?
Basic: 1★ 50.5%, 2★ 30%, 3★ 15%, 4★ 4%, 5★ 0.5%. Advanced: 2★ 50%, 3★ 38.5%, 4★ 10%, 5★ 1.5%. The odds are the same on every summon and never change with your level or floor.
Can I get duplicate heroes?
No. Every summon creates a brand-new hero with their own name, face and story, so no hero is ever summoned twice, by you or by anyone else.
How many heroes can I keep?
Your roster grows as your Master level rises, and extra slots from the Emporium and beds in your Hero Quarters add more. A fallen hero frees their slot.
What if I have no heroes left and no gold?
The tower conscripts a free 1★ Novice for you, once a day, whenever you have no living hero and cannot afford a summon, so the game never locks you out.
Can I talk to my heroes?
Yes. Commune with any hero in your dimension and they answer in their own voice, from what they have lived through. Each message costs 1 IP.
Can I choose a hero’s class?
No, the class arrives with the hero. A 1★ comes as a classless Novice and earns a class at 2★ from the weapons they trained with on expeditions; 2★ to 4★ heroes come as Warriors, Archers, Thieves or, rarely, Magicians; a 5★ comes with one of 17 advanced classes.
How do heroes get stronger?
Beyond their levels, their skills sharpen with use on the floors, and stones raise their star rank: an Advancement Stone takes a 1★ to 2★, and Mastery Stones of their class take them higher. Each new star adds 20 levels to their cap.
What happens when a hero dies?
A hero at 0 HP is downed, not dead, and rolls a death save each turn: three successes, or a natural 20, bring them back at 1 HP, and three failures kill them. A dead hero is gone for good, with no revives, and their gear is buried with them.
What is Valhalla?
Valhalla ranks the hundred greatest fallen heroes by Combat Power, with the floor that finally killed each one.
Expeditions and progression
Rounds and IP, the tower, guilds, the arena and the Daily Dungeon.
How do I level up?
Two ways. Your heroes level up from the experience they earn on expeditions and in the Daily Dungeon, 20 levels per star, up to 100 at 5★. You level up as a Master with every round you play, up to level 100, and each new level pays a Mystery Box.
What is an expedition?
An expedition sends a party of your heroes into one floor of your tower. Clear your highest floor and the next one opens; you can replay lower floors, but they open nothing new. More in How Expeditions Work.
What is a round, and what is IP?
A round is one turn of play: every hero acts, the dice roll, and the game master writes what happened. IP (Interference Points) pays for rounds, 1 IP each, charged only once the round is saved. If you run out, your party makes camp and waits; the run does not fail.
What are gold, Origin Gems and IP?
Gold is earned in play, mostly by clearing floors, and pays for Basic summons. Origin Gems are the bought currency, also paid by arena seasons and the odd rare drop, and pay for Advanced summons. IP pays for rounds and a few extras, like messages to your heroes.
How many rounds can I play a day?
Free: 5 rounds a day. Standard Pass: 15 rounds a day. Premium Pass: 25 rounds a day.
Can I get IP without paying?
Yes. Claim your free 5 IP once a day (the day resets at midnight UTC+8), new Masters get 5 IP for their first expedition, and members of our Discord get a one-time 20 IP bonus.
How many heroes can I send at once?
One at first, two from Master level 5, and three from level 10. Your Master level rises with every round you play.
Why can’t I send a hero?
A hero can be in one place at a time. One already on an expedition, working in a facility, building one, or lent to a guildmate stays there until they are free, and a fallen hero cannot be sent at all.
Do my heroes obey me?
Not always: they decide for themselves. Each round you can let them play or give an order, 1 IP either way, and a hero may refuse an order, depending on their personality and how badly things are going.
How tall is the tower, and what are arcs and worlds?
A hundred floors in ten arcs of ten. Every 5th floor is an elite fight, every 10th a boss, and floor 100 is the last. Each arc is a world with its own land and villain, and arcs open over time.
What do guilds do?
Guilds open once you beat floor 5, and founding one costs 500 Origin Gems or 10,000 gold. Every round a member plays earns Guild Points, and guildmates can lend each other a hero for floors they have already cleared. A lent hero cannot die.
How does the arena work?
Your heroes fight another Master’s team in a simulated battle, with no AI and no risk to their HP. Seasons last 14 days and rotate between 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3; you get 3 free fights a day, then tickets or 5 IP each. A win pays more points the stronger the team you beat, a loss still pays some, and every ranked Master can claim gems and gold when the season ends.
What is the Daily Dungeon?
Three dungeons take turns: Perion Mines on Monday and Tuesday, Ellin Forest on Wednesday and Thursday, Nihal Dunes on Friday and Saturday, and all three on Sunday. Your first descent each day is free, then a ticket or 5 IP, and heroes cannot die there. Each dungeon pays its own building material: Cragiron, Fairywood or Pyresand.
